You

such a good time.

| Introduced to the Kodiak Islands in 1924
these animals have flourished to a herd of as many as 100,000 animals.
That is a deer herd of approximately 20 animals per square mile of
habitat. Having one of the lowest cholesterol levels of any red meat,
these deer make excellent table fare and are a staple of many Kodiak
residents. If you have hunted Dall Sheep, you will find an interesting
similarity in the terrain, tracks and sign for these deer. Hunters
after a trophy should be in good shape and able to climb our 2000
foot mountains. Fall hunting season starts in August with the deer
carrying as much as 1" of body fat after feeding all spring and
summer on the Islands lush grasses. Raspberry Island remote Camps
offers both guided and unguided hunts for these animals. Please check
with us or the Department of Fish and Game (Kodiak, 1-907-486-1880)
for current regulations on harvest levels. |
